This activity of Qatar Navigation is responsible for supervision, maintenance and proper performance of all vessels owned or managed by Qatar Navigation, as well as maintaining the vessels' readiness and compliance with the requirements of international classification societies. The department prepares periodical repairs schedules and supervises execution of such repairs. Periodical inspection of the vessels by key personnel significantly reduces break-down incidents and eliminates expensive off-hires by making use of the scheduled port call in rectifying defects and carrying out routine maintenance. The unit is also responsible for selection of the shipboard crew so as to ensure good performance of the company's vessels. During the year 2005, this activity supervised dry-docking of the following vessels: - QN 115 (barge) - QN 116 (barge) - QN 119 (barge) - AL ARISH - DIYAB - FONTAS - BROUK The technical team specialized in ship repairs and armed with the requisite tools and equipment, continued to carry out its operations thus decreasing the number of incidences of repairs commissioned to outside contractors. This unit continues to implement, on board the vessels as well as in the head office, a safety and quality management system which fulfills the requirements of the ISM-Code (International Safety Management Code) and ISO 9001-2000 Standard. This enabled the company to retain its Document of Compliance after the annual verification which was carried out by LIoyd's Register of Shipping.
